What's replacing social media

Hi Reader,

If you read my last newsletter, I shared that I was closing my Facebook group. Today is, in fact, the last day of the group.

As I shared, I'm not doing this because I don’t want community. I’m actually really craving it these days, as are many of us. I’m doing this because Facebook is no longer aligned, so I’m moving on and considering other places to create that community.

(As a side note, I just joined BlueSky Social. Also I’m finally making my way to Substack.)

But I mentioned that I see something replacing social media. Something I think is more important … today more than ever.

It’s something we all forget about: In person and community connections.

In fact, I think people are craving community SO MUCH right now at the same time we are being increasingly disgruntled with so many online communities platforms who, above all of us, benefit from getting our attention. (They literally make money from our attention!)

Community is so important right now that I have been incorporating it into EVERY marketing plan that I have done for clients recently.

(For those who don’t want to do their own marketing plan, I do it for you and tell you which marketing channels to use for your business, tailored to your strengths, market, and even location.)

So in these marketing plans, I have a whole “Community” section where I outline ways to show up and connect with your local community.

This works for most of us, who are not living in completely rural areas.

But the community doesn’t necessarily have to be in person. There are communities springing up online that meet regularly on Zoom and/or use a What’s App group for conversations in between meetings.

The bottom line is: It’s prioritizing COMMUNITY, not platforms. Connecting with real, living breathing humans in the same space. Connecting in spaces and in ways that benefit US, not the big companies who host us.

As the distrust builds online (which it has been for quite some time), we need something real to trust in. What is more real than the person in front of you?

I believe community and these types of connections are going to become increasingly important in the near future. There is basically no reason NOT to add community connections into your marketing.

So one question for you to ponder today: What is ONE way you can incorporate community connections into your business?

To building your community,

P.S. If you’re saying, "I want to work with the community into my marketing plan!" (or "I don’t even have a marketing plan!"), let's chat. Check “marketing plan” on this form and we’ll schedule a free call to discuss.

Hi Reader, Last week, I spoke about letting go of what no longer works for us in business, but in life as well. I also offered a practice you can use for letting go. Letting go is the first step that should be done before deciding what you want to bring into the new year. But that’s a topic for next time. Today, we want to look at what is working and what’s not from a business perspective. I believe in prioritizing your instincts and intuition… but also in looking at the data. This means we...

Happy December! It’s been a YEAR… hasn’t it?!! Now that we’re in the final stretch of 2025, it's a great time to reflect and clarify what you want to leave behind in 2025… and what you want to carry in to 2026. This process can feel overwhelming. Sometimes the easiest approach is to start with what’s *no longer* working and what you don’t want to do anymore. For me, there are things that are no longer working AND there are things that simply don’t light me up anymore. Things that instead feel...

I’ve spoken a lot in the past about fear and how it affects our businesses… specifically the fear of being seen. (I even have a whole course around that!) That’s one of the biggest fears I’ve been working with in my life since … forever. The important thing to remember is that the fear of being seen (or anything else, probably?) can be remedied. I hesitate to say “overcome”, even though, technically we are overcoming it with every step we take. I’ve also spoken about how having trauma or even...
